I have never been more frightened than when I started to choke on a piece of candy. One time in eighth grade I was hanging out with my cousins when a huge piece of Japanese hard candy got stuck in my throat. At first I didn't really know what was happening, I just knew that I couldn't breathe. I ran to my mom immediately and I was so scared and did the choking signal and she got out of her seat so fast to go help me. At first she tried the Heimlich and it didn't work, so my Uncle sprung out from his seat to try and help. It was a huge deal because the Heimlich Maneuver was not working. They had to call the ambulance and right as the ambulance walked through the door, the candy came out. I looked over at one of the emergency workers and she had a pen thing in her hand that's made to make a hole in the throat so the patient can breathe again. To think that I was so close to having a hole jabbed in my throat is crazy, because then i would also have to deal with the emotional weight of having a giant scar there and the anxiety that followed the whole incident. It was so frightening but in the end everything worked out because I'm still alive and i'm better than ever
