Conceptual Pictures are pictures that are simple, but yet have a story behind them. Sometimes the story is really simple and sometimes its complicated. I found these photos really difficult to take simply because even though I knew the story behind it, would others know it too?
Sad Bear
The concept I attempted to portray is emotion coming from an inanimate object. I composted this photo by taking it from an angle which made the bear look sad or lonley. It change the way the strings of the mouth looked and the way the eyes glistened. When I edited this picture I attempted to make the "frown" lines deeper and use the burn tool to make the mouth look darker.
Chair.
When my mom brought this chair into our house it really creeped me out. I think this chair gives off a weird vibe just by looking at it. I'm not a person to believe in ghosts, but if there was something in my house that would come alive at night, it would be that chair. I made the colors look bland and worn out just how the chair looks. I like the background of the photo because its interesting with all the different elements.
Off.
This one I was iffy about but now I really do like it. I like how in the picture the off switch is tied in with the clock. Stopping time or just turning off your mind for a bit. However you want to perceive this photo. To take this picture I used a weird angle. Editing the picture I made the colors more vibrant and interesting and I highlighted some parts of the picture.
Tv fanatic.
I think this one is funny because often my dog watches TV like he understands what going on. I like this picture because I think it shows the focus that he has and how its like a normal human being. It shows how something can have an understanding even though they completely don't know the situation. I could be looking way too deep into this. To edit I had to change the exposure so its not as dark and I used the burn tool to make the tv darker.
The Cross.
This photo I wanted to create more of a sad but hopeful feel. I took this picture because to me, it shows hope and optimism only because those things exist from an outcome that isn't so happy. My mom wrote that letter because I was feeling upset and down, The letter itself is happy but the reason the happy letter exists is because I was sad. The pictures around the main focus kind of helps with the back story and shows me and the type of person I am.
Makeup
In this picture I used some gamma and exposure editing to make the colors bland. The story behind this picture isn't as potent as the other ones, but I think it shows a back story of just how everything isn't as colorful as it once was. How to others the blush and the eye shadow might stand out but to you that's just a normal look. I moved the makeup items around in this photo to create a good composition.
Puppet
In this photo I wanted it to show how the person is being controlled by something else while living. They have no control over what they are doing and something is telling them they need to do this. I attempted to show this by drawing a puppet type mouth on me and I tried to fix my posture to look attentive. I edited this photo using color correction and such. I used the burn tool to darken some lines. I really wanted to compose this picture with clean lines and I want the eye to move throughout the photo.
Lipstick
In this picture I wanted to show something that looks kind of insane, like someone who's brain was set off. The picture shows a very messy lipstick application with a huge smile on my face. I think that it shows someones brain kind of getting friend and them pushed off the edge. I think it portrays the concept because its kind of a sly smirk and it feels off putting.
Wiping off the makeup.
This one I attempted to show more of a plastic or robot type of look to myself. I wanted every line to be straight and not to look droopy. The look in my face gives off an feeling of being sad or not happy. Maybe its with the way people look at themselves without makeup or such products. I took this picture with a self timer on my camera and I used some rule of thirds techniques of attempt to make the eye move.
The Eye
In this one I wanted to show the pain and the uncomfortable nature of beauty. I made the picture look unsettling by added a red color tint to the eye in Photoshop and darkening the mascara on my cheek. I made my eye brighter so it stands out and its the first thing you see. I composed it by using some of the rule of thirds technique hoping your eyes wonder throughout the picture.
